Jeep India to Launch More Affordable 2WD Variants of the Compass Diesel-Automatic on September 16, 2023

Jeep India is all set to expand its Compass range with the introduction of more affordable 2WD variants of the diesel-automatic model. The new variants will be launched on September 16, 2023, and will have a lower starting price than the existing 4×4 variants. Here are some details about the new 2WD variants of the Jeep Compass diesel-automatic.

Price

  • The official price will be announced on Saturday, September 16, 2023.
  • The new 2WD variants will have a lower starting price than the existing 4×4 variants, which start from Rs 29 lakh (ex-showroom).
  • The new 2WD variants will be available in five trims: Sport, Longitude, Longitude+, Limited, and Model S. The Longitude trim will be the entry point for the automatic range, with an expected on-road price of Rs 27 lakh.

Engine and Transmission

The new 2WD variants will have the same 2.0-litre diesel engine and 9-speed automatic gearbox as the 4×4 variants. The engine produces 173 PS and 350 Nm of torque, and offers a smooth and refined performance. The automatic transmission also comes with a manual mode and paddle shifters for more control and fun. The new 2WD variants will have a better fuel efficiency than the 4×4 variants, as they will have less weight and mechanical drag.

Variants and Features

The new 2WD variants will be available in five trims: Sport, Longitude, Longitude+, Limited, and Model S. The Longitude trim will be the entry point for the automatic range, with an expected on-road price of Rs 27 lakh. The Sport trim will only be available with a manual transmission. The features of the new 2WD variants will be similar to the corresponding 4×4 variants, except for the absence of the terrain management system and hill descent control. Design and Colours

The new 2WD variants will also get some cosmetic updates, such as a new chrome grille and alloy wheel design. The Limited trim will also get a new Black Shark version, with an all-black interior and black alloy wheels. The new 2WD variants will be available in six colour options: Aqua Surge, Gray Shimmer, Bright White, Magnesio Grey, Minimal Grey, and Exotica Red.

Competition and Verdict

The new 2WD variants of the Jeep Compass diesel-automatic will compete with other mid-size SUVs such as the Hyundai Tucson, Skoda Karoq, MG Hector Plus, Tata Harrier, and Mahindra XUV500. The new variants will offer a more affordable option for those who want a premium SUV with a diesel-automatic combination, but do not need the off-road capabilities of a 4×4 system. The new variants will also help Jeep India to boost its sales and market share in the highly competitive SUV segment.

Availability

  • Dealers across the country are currently taking unofficial bookings for the redesigned Jeep Compass. Deliveries are expected to begin at the end of this month or early next month.
