Mahindra XUV E8 Leaked Image: Patent Image Leak Hints at the Final Look

The production-spec XUV.e8, Mahindra’s upcoming electric derivative of the XUV700 SUV, closely resembles the concept version unveiled as the XUV.e8 last year. A leaked design patent has revealed the styling of the XUV.e8, suggesting that it will retain the essence of the concept design while incorporating the basics of the regular XUV700. The official launch of the XUV.e8 is scheduled for December 2024.

One of the standout features of the XUV.e8 is its battery pack, which is expected to have a capacity of around 80kWh. The vehicle is built on a dedicated electric platform, known as the born-EV platform, enabling optimal performance and efficiency for an electric SUV.

Analyzing the design patent, it’s evident that the production-spec XUV.e8 maintains the majority of the body panels from the concept version and closely resembles the current XUV700. However, the intricate paint job seen on the concept is absent in the leaked image.

An all-new front fascia sets the XUV.e8 apart, featuring a full-width LED light bar that extends vertically into the bumper. Following the typical design approach for electric vehicles, the grille is fully sealed, and the bumper incorporates triangular headlamps. The profile of the XUV.e8 closely resembles the XUV700, with flush door handles, similar character lines, and an identical glasshouse. The production version will receive new aero-optimized wheels. While the rear is not visible in the leaked image, it’s expected to carry over the design elements of the regular XUV700.

Adding a unique touch, the patent image reveals copper highlights accentuating the glasshouse, headlamp surrounds, bumper inserts, and the Mahindra logo. This copper highlight will become a signature element for Mahindra’s upcoming EV lineup, similar to the already-available XUV400.

The leaked design patent also hints that Mahindra’s other upcoming EVs, such as the XUV.e9 and the BE range, will likely share similarities with their respective concept versions. This observation aligns with our earlier findings when we spotted the BE.05 being tested on public roads.

Beyond its design, the XUV.e8 distinguishes itself from the XUV700 by utilizing Mahindra’s born-electric INGLO skateboard platform. It will measure 4,740mm in length, 1,900mm in width, and 1,760mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,762mm. Compared to the XUV700, the XUV.e8 will be slightly larger, being 45mm longer, 10mm wider, and 5mm taller, while the wheelbase will increase by just 7mm.

Mahindra has confirmed that the XUV.e8 will feature an all-wheel drive system and a battery pack capacity ranging up to 80kWh. Power outputs will vary from 230hp to over 350hp. Anticipated to be the first of Mahindra’s upcoming EVs to enter production, the XUV.e8 is set to hit the market in December 2024.
