Benu Gopal Bangur is known as one of the richest individuals in India and the wealthiest person in Kolkata. He is the chairman of Shree Cements and is 92 years old. According to Forbes, he ranks 20th on the list of richest Indians with an estimated net worth of around Rs 56,000 crore. Benu Gopal Bangur owns a significant stake in Shree Cement, a company valued at approximately Rs 89,750 crore in the market.

The Bangur Empire, established by Benu Gopal Bangur’s grandfather Mungee Ram Bangur and his brother Ram Coowar Bangur, was one of the largest family groups in India at one point. In 1991, the thriving company was divided into five divisions among the grandsons of Mungee Ram Bangur and Ram Coowar Bangur. Benu Gopal Bangur inherited his family’s entrepreneurial qualities.Shree Cements, also known as Bangur Cement, was founded by Benu Gopal Bangur’s grandfather in Jaipur in 1979. As a bequest, Benu Gopal Bangur inherited a significant 65% ownership stake in Shree Cements, which led to his position as the company’s chairman. Under his leadership, the cement business has become the third-largest in India.

Shree Cements is known for its cost-effective production and has seen its revenues increase from Rs 3,543 crore to Rs 14,165 crore since 2010. The company sells cement under various brand names like Roofon, Bangur Power, Shree Jung Rodhak, and Rockstrong.Benu Gopal Bangur hails from Kolkata and comes from a Marwari business family. He completed his B.Com. with honors from Calcutta University and was one of the first graduates from Kolkata at that time. According to Forbes, Benu Gopal Bangur lives in a luxurious villa in Kolkata, which spans 51,000 square feet and features amenities like a home theater, gym, and a temple dedicated to Lord Venkatesh, a Hindu deity.

At 92 years old, he has entrusted the management of his business empire to his offspring. Currently, the business is being managed by Hari Mohan Bangur, an IIT Mumbai graduate in chemical engineering.
