New Nominees Announced for 2023 MTV VMAs: Jungkook, BLACKPINK, and More

The 2023 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) are heating up with the announcement of new nominations in four exciting categories: Song of Summer, Show of the Summer, Group of the Year, and Album of the Year. Among the nominees are some of the biggest names in K-pop, including Jungkook, BLACKPINK, TXT, FIFTY FIFTY, NewJeans, and SEVENTEEN.

Jungkook, often referred to as the golden maknae of BTS, is making waves in the Song of Summer category with his solo track “Euphoria,” which was released as part of his mixtape “Golden.” The song has captured the hearts of fans and critics alike with its uplifting melody and heartfelt lyrics. Jungkook is also a nominee for Show of the Summer with his online concert “Golden Day,” which drew an astonishing 10 million viewers from around the world.

BLACKPINK, the global sensation in the girl group scene, is up for both Group of the Year and Album of the Year with their first full-length album, “The Album.” Featuring eight tracks, including chart-toppers like “How You Like That,” “Ice Cream” (featuring Selena Gomez), and “Lovesick Girls,” the album has sold over 5 million copies worldwide and secured top spots on charts both in Korea and internationally.

TXT, the rising stars from Big Hit Music, are nominated for Group of the Year and Album of the Year with their second studio album, “The Chaos Chapter: FREEZE.” This dynamic album showcases TXT’s growth and versatility as artists, spanning genres from pop-rock to EDM. It has already surpassed 1 million copies in sales in Korea and made its mark on the Billboard 200 and Oricon Weekly Albums Chart.

FIFTY FIFTY, the rookie girl group under YG Entertainment, is making their mark with nominations in the Song of Summer and Show of the Summer categories. Their debut single, “Fifty Fifty,” is an infectious pop anthem that promotes self-confidence and empowerment. Additionally, their reality show, “Fifty Fifty: Who’s Next?,” takes fans on a journey from trainee life to becoming full-fledged idols, complete with exciting challenges and missions.

NewJeans, the co-ed group from SM Entertainment, is vying for Song of Summer and Show of the Summer honors with their debut single, “NewJeans,” and their variety show, “NewJeans: New Generation.” The single brings a funky disco vibe with a retro twist, while the variety show provides insight into the group’s interactions with celebrities and showcases their quirky personalities.

SEVENTEEN, the self-producing powerhouse from Pledis Entertainment, is nominated for both Group of the Year and Album of the Year with their ninth mini album, “Attacca.” This album includes six tracks, including the emotive title track “Ready to Love,” which delves into the rollercoaster of emotions experienced when falling in love. The album has already exceeded 2 million copies in sales in Korea and achieved a perfect all-kill on Korean music charts.

Fans hold the key to determining the winners in these categories through online voting on MTV’s website. Voting for Song of Summer and Show of the Summer will close on September 10, while Group of the Year and Album of the Year voting will conclude on September 11.
