With Oppo, Google, Samsung, Motorola, and other manufacturers stepping up their game in the foldable smartphone market, it appears that this form factor is on the verge of going mainstream. Earlier this year, at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023, OnePlus teased its upcoming foldable device and even trademarked the names ‘OnePlus V Fold’ and ‘OnePlus V Flip’ in China.

However, a recent tweet from renowned tipster Max Jambor suggests that OnePlus may deviate from this naming scheme and instead opt for the name ‘Open’ for their upcoming foldable devices. Jambor also mentioned that OnePlus had previously patented the name ‘Open,’ along with a few other options like Prime, Wing, Peak, and Edge. Just a few days ago, another well-known tipster, @OnLeaks, speculated on Twitter that the upcoming OnePlus foldable phone would feature a 7.8-inch 120Hz AMOLED display and be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. It is likely to run on OxygenOS 13, based on Android 13, which might be customized to take full advantage of the large internal display.

According to reports, the phone will follow the design language of the recently launched OnePlus 11, sporting a circular camera island in the center and retaining the Hasselblad branding. While there is no official confirmation yet, rumors suggest that the triple camera setup will include a 48MP primary camera, a 48MP ultra-wide lens, and a 64MP telephoto lens, which was recently introduced on the Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus.

The OnePlus Open is expected to come equipped with a 4,800mAh battery and support either 67W or 80W fast charging, which would make it one of the fastest-charging foldable devices in the market. Although an official launch date has not been announced, OnePlus has confirmed that the foldable phone will be released sometime in the third quarter of 2023.
