7 Scientists who Experimented on Themselves

We have seen scientists who spend their whole life on scientific research. Such dedication is admirable. There are even cases where famous researchers have experimented on themselves for the research. Lets see few of them.
In 1898, German surgeon August Bier invented spinal anesthesia, Bier decided to be anesthetized himself but due to some injury reason the experiment was later done on his assistant.
Pierre Curie’s arm
In June 1903, physicist Pierre Curie and his wife won Noble prize for their research on radium. Both Curies exposed themselves to radium regularly for which they had to suffer though pain and illness but their sacrifice paid off.
Sir Humphry Davy
Humphry Davy studied gases at the Medical Pneumatic Institute of Bristol, Through a series of self-experiments with oxides of nitrous, Davy created what is known today as laughing gas., with much research in nitrogen
Swiss chemist Albert Hofmann, who discovered the drug lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) while looking for medically useful derivatives of the ergot fungus. He accidentally discovered effects of the chemical drug by spilling it on his hand.
Ffirth hypothesized the viral hemorrhagic disease, 1793's Yellow Fever Epidemic, was not contagious. he proved his thesis by testing the disease's characteristic black vomit on himself but avoided infection and porved his theory.
John Paul Stapp
Air Force officer and surgeon John Paul Stapp's self-experimentation earned him name "the fastest man on earth'. Stapp repeatedly strapped himself into a rocket sled, and was propelled forward at speed then brake abruptly to determine the body's ability to withstand abrupt deceleration.
During the late 1990s, Kevin Warwick had his team surgically implant a silicon chip transponder into his forearm for an experiment known as Project Cyborg. Through this is nervous system was handled by computer system.
These were some notable medical self-experimenters by the scientists. But with the advance technology its easy to do testing nowadays. The risk of harming one's body fro experiments is unnecessary now.
