Do Video Games Cause Seizures?

It may sound like an urban myth, with video games having negative reputation. But Yes, its true.  Video games can cause seizures.


'Video game-induced seizures' (VGS) is preferable than 'video game epilepsy' because this is not a syndrome. But it is also know as Photosensitive epilepsy.


Photosensitive epilepsy affects only 3 percent of the children who has seizures.


Exposure to flashing lights at certain intensities or to certain visual patterns can trigger seizures, and is more common in children and adolescents than adults.


Children who are photosensitive become less prone to these reactions as they age.


Bright lights, flashing lights can cause seizures in people. Seizures in children with photosensitivity are triggered by lights that repeatedly flash in particular patterns and intensities.


The flashing lights that are most likely to trigger seizures range between a frequency of about 5 to 30 flashes per second.


These seizures can be avoided. The key is playing the right game. a strategy game is safer then RPG games, who has less flashing lights.


Most of the games nowadays are safer but being informed and taking precaution against seizures can be helpful
